Joy Of The Day: March 31, 2022

Can I have two?

1.  I referenced in my Facebook and Instagram post the joy of positively connecting with people in the endurance sports community.  When I think about my announcing, more so road race announcing, I kind of view my title as "Chief Encouragement Officer", although with being fake and hokey!  That was my joy today in connecting with people that were taking part of Fleet Feet Sports Thursday night run from Hughes Landing.  I saw a few people that I know and met somebody new.

2.  The other was sitting down and talking with my daughter.  She's been such an incredible support to me, especially these last 16 months when I believed that one person had some goodness about them and that I had an opening to find out if they did ... only to watch them behave in a way to learn that they really don't.  I really identified with something I saw on Instagram about an empath even feels sorry for the people that hurt them.  I really do.  I feel like there's something that's hurt them so much that it has affected anything to do with me for them.  Yet I can't do anything about it unless you give me the chance to do something about it.  All I can do is pray for them.

Task completed.

I have a hint on what tomorrow's might be.

If you know of this blog, and you're in my court, thank you, regardless whether you tell me or not.

Narcissist Hoovering; March 29, 2022

I've just decided to go on the offensive, because once I do the narcissist will go - and stay - away.

If they haven't figured it out, I really truly don't care for them anymore.

And there's not many that I feel that way about.

I thought very highly of them for a very long time.

They've used me, but no more.

I was actually overjoyed when they didn't come up anywhere at The Woodlands Marathon this year.

And their defense will be, "He's just burned up because I didn't take him up on his invite for time."

And I've stated many times that's not the case as I knew the answer would be, "No."

I just expected the individual to have more class, character and integrity to be an adult.

A high school classmate of mine had their husband commit suicide as he had been targeted by his narcissistic ex-wife, and she labeled my community member's behavior appropriately.

Tap Out Ten; March 28, 2022

Pretty good day.  No major complaints.

Didn't get a run or a brisk walk in, but worked out on my rower, elliptical machine and my Air Assault bike.

Looking forward to my trip this weekend to Amarillo.

Which means, if my narcissist is reading, I won't be at the Sunday Night 5K.  Have fun.

I reached out to the two coaches who control five of the meets that I will do to let them know that I'm planning on returning in 2022.

And, of course, I need the dates of the meets so I can put them on my calendar.

What's crazy is that last year I had prepared both of them of any potential incident that could possibly have happened from the narcissist if they thought about creating a scene.

You do what you have to do to protect yourself.

Both of them told me that they would respond if something developed.

I think I'm going to start working on a book on Texas private and parochial high school athletics.  I believe I want to do something like an all-time "Who's Who?" type book.

I'd love to do something different, but we'll see how things go as I get started.  Lots of opportunities.

I don't know if we're going to do any baseball or softball broadcasts like we did for basketball.

That's really on my colleague Dan as he's done some of both.  I haven't.  And he's got a lot of those contacts.

Basketball?  I'll be ready for another go of things in 2022-2023.  Actually hope to do more games than what he did this year.

We just kind of got back into the swing of things by leveraging our existing relationships with athletic directors and coaches that we know.

We'll expand upon those next season.

I like the space that I'm in right now, even though work may become an issue here shortly.

If it does, I will take some time off and do some traveling to get my 254 county project completed.  Hope to get over the 200 mark this weekend.

Not a lot else going on:  kind of what I say when I talk to my parents.

I need to check in with them to see how their trip to San Antonio went to see the University of Houston Cougars Saturday night.

Of course, they lost to Villanova.  Heck, I don't even really know who all four teams are.  I'm pretty sure Villanova and Duke are in.  I didn't pay any attention yesterday to who won Sunday's games.

And then I believe the women should have been done tonight and now have there's complete.

Maybe I can report on that tomorrow night.

If you're reading, God bless you.

Tap Out Ten; March 27, 2022

I used to do this thing called, "Tap out ten."

Well, I'm bringing it back.

It is just to type out 10 minutes of what transpired during the day.

Today was emotionally rough for me.  It still is as I'm writing here at 11 p.m.

I've never hurt like I do and it seems like nobody other than my friend CK and my daughter really, really care.

As I've said elsewhere today, I've never felt devalued, dehumanized and disrespected more than I did today.

That individual will think I'm weak, but I would call that person a coward, honestly.

They know what they're doing and they don't care.

They give the world the impression that they are good friends with me, but they aren't.

And the thing is is that it seems like everybody either gets the other version of this person or they are fooling everyone else.

I honestly don't know what I've done to deserve all of this.

Again my friend, Amie, said late last year, "Jon, they do not deserve you."

She told me recently, "Walk, you're above reproach.  You have been used by narcissist women, but you've always conducted yourself as a gentleman.  There's no parallel.

"You know that.  I still want you to hear it."

What I call Narc2 actually in the last week or two followed me on Strava.

Why?

They were the ones that invited me to breakfast after the 2020 Hot Chocolate race - oh, that reminds me I need to deposit their check from January - with a friend and then their date shows up at Ninfa's on Navigation and then acts like they really don't know me that well, asking if Waverly is still in college when they damn well sure that she wasn't.

You can actually go to this blog and read completely what I had to say about today at the Texas 10 Huntsville race -- https://houstonrunning2.blogspot.com/2022/03/trying-to-take-joy-out-of-announcing.html

All I can say is that I hope that that person is happy.

I told my friend, Bill, that I will never ever respect that person.

And, I really hate to give up on anybody.

In other news, I've decided to stay and do my cross country races this year.  I had already walked away from one that I had done the last two years, but the timer that brought me to the table we had a discussion today that I would return.

That means I'll stay for the ones in The Woodlands, Huntsville and Waco.  The latter being TAPPS.

I go to Amarillo this weekend to try to knock off some "mile or more" counties starting early Saturday morning, unless, of course, there's a race.

But I'd like to get at a minimum the 15 counties at the top of the panhandle, basically three rows of five stacked one on top of the other.

And in closing, I'm beat.  Physically and emotionally.

I just ask God to watch over me and heal me now, tomorrow and through the rest of the week and month ahead.

Workout Shirt of the Day - 3/21/22

March 21 (Monday) - 2,910 meters rowing (15:31) - 10.1 miles cycling on Air Assault bike (30:11)

Threat of major weather kept me from getting out to either walk or run, but the two exercises were good efforts.  Elliptical came in.  Not what I was hoping for, but I'll make it work.

The shirt below is a classic!  It was the first half marathon in Huntsville that I ran after meeting Ken Johnson the year before when he told me before I ran my very first one that if I couldn't run Huntsville in less than three (3) hours then not to come!

I took that as a challenge.

I ran it four times, 2004-2007, before starting to announce it - one of the first races that I had ever done that for.

Great stuff!

Workout Shirt of the Day - 3/18/22

March 18 (Friday) - 10.2 miles cycling on Air Assault bike (30:07)

Went to see Katy St. John XXIII at Tomball Concordia Lutheran high school baseball earlier this evening at 6 p.m. just to get out of the house a bit.

Didn't walk today or yesterday, but I got a good workout in yesterday and this (above) today.

As for today's workout shirt ...

I did the 15K that day and ran well - for me, that is.  My log shows 1:31:41, but I think the course was short.  There was a gate that was supposed for us to be open and we were supposed to go off of the road for a short distance and come back to make the 15K distance complete.

General Sports Musings; March 16, 2022

I lasted about three minutes into Buzz Williams' seven-minute opening statement about Texas A&M getting snubbed by the NCAA Selection Committee.

Perhaps he just wanted to put off answering why they couldn't beat the SWAC's regular season champion Alcorn State any more than 74-62, after being tied at 27 at halftime.

And you have to love the support too.

9,955 in the last regular season home against Mississippi State.

It was free last night and only 6,379 showed.
